50 years of Australian engineering excellence

What started as one man's innovative vision has grown into Australia's leading custom abrasive blasting systems manufacturer.

Half a century ago, one engineer’s vision changed how Australia approaches
surface preparation. Today, Protoblast is the country’s leading manufacturer
of custom-engineered blasting solutions with proprietary technology and
unmatched local support.

The Protoblast story began in 1975, when John Gillies, Chief Design Engineer at Industrial Metal Protectives (IMP), spotted the potential to revolutionise abrasive blasting technology.

He purchased the Blastmaster division and founded Protoblast with a clear vision: create better, more efficient surface preparation solutions for Australian industry.

Our Business

50 years of proven excellence

Since 1975, we’ve designed and manufactured custom abrasive blasting solutions for Australian industry. From small fabrication shops to major industrial operations, our customers trust us to deliver precisely what they need.

Australian-owned, made and supported
Every system is designed and built in our Picton facility using Australian engineering excellence. More importantly, we’re here when you need us – with local support, spare parts and technical expertise just a phone call away.
Proprietary technology advantage

The Protoblast team is a wholly Australian-owned company and we are dedicated to refining the foundational technology and applying our innovation to develop the next best blast chamber adaptations. With superior solutions, our outcomes aim for lower operating costs, and our safety conditions and monitoring from beginning to end, ensure the safest practices at all times.

We help you save money, offering superior reliability and durability through products built to last and perform with maximum effect. Thus, reducing the repair and maintenance costs in the operational lifespan of our machinery.

We, at Protoblast, have also supplied specialised cabinets and air blast machines, which have been used to blast a wide variety of products, ranging from rocket tubes to sanding belts.

Based in Picton NSW but delivering and installing through out the country with successful installations in:

  • Darwin
  • Pilbara

… Just to name a few.
