As Protoblast marks its 50th year in the industry, its legacy of trust, quality and experience continues to define its identity. The values have not only guided the company’s own growth but have also shaped lasting partnerships. One of which began in 1990 with NEPEAN Engineering. From the first blast chamber in Narellan to another machine at Nepean’s new Sydney site, Protoblast’s dedication remains unwavering. Trust deepens and quality is reaffirmed with each project.

About NEPEAN Engineering
NEPEAN Engineering is a full-service engineering and manufacturing company specialising in four (4) industries: defence; precision manufacturing; mining and earth moving; and infrastructure and civil works. Their aim is to be the premier provider of complex components and structures. Central to this goal is building partnerships based on trust, timely delivery and consistent quality, such values that strongly align with Protoblast’s commitment to its clients.
Built on Trust
The relationship between Protoblast and NEPEAN began in 1990 with a custom blast chamber designed for blasting telephone boxes installed in Narellan. The first collaboration set the tone for a partnership built on reliability. NEPEAN returned to Protoblast for future projects, confident in the support and performance the company has provided. Over time, that trust became the foundation of a long-term working relationship.
Committed to Quality
In the mid-1990s, NEPEAN Engineering expanded its surface preparation capabilities with the purchase of a large grit blast chamber equipped with a full floor abrasive recovery system. Later, a third blast chamber was added to handle bead and garnet blasting. Each system was designed, built, and installed by Protoblast. These chambers remain in use today with Protoblast’s preventive maintenance to continually serve NEPEAN and deliver dependable results.
Strengthened by Experience
With every project, the shared experience between Protoblast and NEPEAN has grown. In 2025, Protoblast will once again deliver a custom solution for Nepean’s new site in Sydney. The new blast chamber will include a ‘H’ recovery system and have internal dimensions of 20 metres long, 6 metres wide, and 6 metres high. This next step builds on more than three decades of collaboration and shared expertise.
The continuing partnership between Protoblast and NEPEAN Engineering proves that trust, quality and experience stand the test of time. The upcoming 2025 installation is not just another milestone, it reflects relationship built on consistent delivery, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to doing things right. As both companies move forward, this collaboration continues to show what lasting partnerships in engineering can achieve.
